CNC cut Carrara marble, 450mm x 300mm x 80mm.
The original piece was hand carved in plaster many years ago at art college in London. At the time I was looking at various prehistoric and early architectural structures.
The piece is simple and pure and was arrived at by laterally extending the lines of the interior rectangle. These lines then became the edges of separated surfaces, gently curving in towards the central aperture.
The piece can also be read as a face or mask, which, with its height being just under half a metre, gives it a slightly monumental scale.
