Expanded polyethylene foam, resin, Kvadrat Coda fabric.
Two seating positions were chosen; one open and reclining, the other more fitted and upright. Solid wooden armatures were made and sheets of firm but flexible foam attached to both.
Then an intuitive process began by taking a chalk and starting to draw, as a dressmaker or pattern-cutter, looking for the lines of forms that made sense, aesthetically and ergonomically. Working with the characteristics of the material and constantly sitting and looking, pushing and pulling, a sense of rightness was sought and two chairs that had their own distinct and believable personalities.
The excess material was then machined away and the two forms were set with woven fabric and resin.
